Micles Tights..it gets worse

So I bought my micles tights this year, because Dianne was a tad too muddy on me. However I found a few things that irked me after careful observation.

1.Anyone that did 4x and up their tights were not low waist....more like high waist! On more than one plus sized masquerader I saw their band all up over their navel

2. Anyone darker than Carmelo, suck salt...the shades were off big time! A lot of ladies including myself of the darker hue, tights were too muddy on our complexion.

3.The crutch.....why must the crutch part be so outstanding this year...yes outstanding! It irked my cousin to no end, I couldn't be bothered.

4. What I must commend them on was that the tights were generally stronger than last year, but still hit 1 aspect and missed the other

Back to D Savannah and TRIBE

So, after the shit experience with Spice last year I went back to band I knew that surely would not fail me in terms of customer service and costume quality. I must say, for the 2 years that I've been away from my beloved TRIBE, it has changed and not for the better in my opinion.

Carnival Monday, I arrived just as we were crossing the stage and I could not help but notice a large number of BLISS masqueraders in their costumes well palancin across the stage with us. But I let it slide, it's Monday , you know? But what got me cross was when I reached the lunch stop, I got food quite easily, cause simply, put I do not dilly dally around D Savannah, after I cross it's food time. My cousin on the other hand who did not want what I got, was having a lot of trouble to get food. In the first of all my mas playing entirety, TRIBE ran out of food! YES......YOU HEARD ME!!!! TRIOBE!!!!!!!

I overheard caterers telling other masqueraders they catered for the amount they were asked to cater for...so what happened? Word on the street is some BLISS masqueraders (the same ones crossing the stage all up in our band) were served food! Now I do not know how true this is, but I hope it's a lesson to TRIBE maybe to start including some form of Monday wear to make your masqueraders easily detectable. Sure not everyone will wear it, but if you make it cute, like the Xian FL monokini's they got, it'll be worn.

We had Mr. Iwer George, perform for us on Stanmore before we left and I s till think that man should've won Soca Monarch....but yes the vibes were a plenty and flowing Monday

Carnival Tuesday now, I reached the band on time! Got my breakfast, bake and buljol and chugged down some blue waters. Our music truck met us on Park Street and jamishness began on Frederick. Our wait to cross the Savannah was not too long, but I will say again as I did last year, after paying close to $4000, I do not feel I should be getting drinks from the Savannah vendors. Bands, please try to invest in those Rotoplastic drinks barrel carts and wheel around water and pepsi or something while we wait to cross, you know it's not going to be any 20 minute process and you know the sun is hot....work with me nah.

Once ah-flickin-gain there were BLISS Masqueraders in our band AGAIN....crossing the stage with us AGAIN!!!!! I could understand getting a lil mixed up with Amazon and Amazonia but there is no yellow and blue in TRIBE(Caprica) and nothing that looks like Pele either.

But on crossing the stage I must admit that TRIBE was significantly smaller than last year. I like the size it was neat.

After crossing we took off to the park and trust, the issue did not happen, I would go as far as to saying they had too much food now. My only complaint, it may sound petty, but I said this the last time I played with TRIBE, if you're going to serve me a huge breast....chop it up, if not give boneless and stop trying to make me look ghetto with this damn breakable plastic fork, no knife and a big ass piece of chicken.

There was also foot and back massage service available...I took one and my God! Please bring it back next year!!!!! (Peter-Anne! I rate yuh)

Now is when the commess start.

So apparantly all the other trucks silently crepped away and only until the last truck start to play music did we realise the band done up and gone. So here is the majority of the band running to catch up to the truck. Now when I see we make a right on Tragarete road, instead of a left. One eyebrow raise. But I said to thyself....

"Self...they must be going down that road with one woodbrook place and ting doh beat up"

Well that was not d case because as soon as we went around that round a bout the blasted truck starta speed down the road. I by the entrance to the barracks and the truck is by Courts speeding going. Now I didn't go to the gym, but apparently I reallll fit cause I ran behind that truck until we reach the flickin amphitheatre!

Ah say aight...it early still we will go down d avenue then come back up or something man.....boyyyyyyyyy was I wrong. TRIBE had yet to go on the avenue or downtown. I don't really care for Downtown, but at least the avenue nah....that's where a lot of dissappointed family members were waiting to see me. In the booklet the route states town and Ariapita, so what happened? Not to mention I didn't get my Mario's eh....I ain't see it yet. We stuck around on the Tragarete for a long time until I decided to leave.

And another thing, the top of my bra strap was covered with brocade, needless to say by 3pm I was steadly re-adjusting my strap because of how uncomfortable it was. Not a bright idea.

All in all I'd give TRIBE a 6.75 out of 10, for the mere fact that I feel as though I am paying more and more and getting less. I remember is 2008, I couldn't walk out with my costume and goody bacg at collection by myself, the amount of things I got was ridiculous, I remember the freeebies on the road itself, and for that I am a tad disappointed. Maybe the management of TRIBE has put more into BLISS and as a result TRIBE's standards have declined. All i know is it's still better than Spice any day all day....

Hiya Guys! So I just got home from Cascadia, where I got my TRIBE Amazon costume and let me tell allyuh it skimpy!!!!!!

But on another note, I think my goodie bag is sub par, I found that the last time I played with TRIBE there was a lot of stuff, useful stuff. This time, yea there are collectors items, but Im not impressed, give my my bottle,cup, snacks, pad, tampons n shield anyday! I'm definitely thanking God I got my Survivor Pack

I didn't feel the need to take pics of Cascadia, its basically the same set up.

Way of the Warrior! ...Mimi's TRIBE Review

This review has been longgggggggg overdue! After I went to the band launch, like I had such a great time, I just couldn't pick myself up whole week! lol But I'm up and going and time for the review!

So my compadre Lele and I set off the battlefield around 12 and arrived just in time to get a drink and find a spot remotely close to the stage. Unfortunately it wasn't close enough so all my pics came out like shit.

Before I begin I must state my opinion on a few matters; I honestly thought the costumes would have a lot more studs and stuff, just be a little bit more rough. But overall, I guess they need to cater to all types of masqueraders, and I think TRIBE has efficiently done so...The models on the other hand definitely needed to do some more practicing, between completely ignoring the right side (their left) of the stage and running on and off stage like a bat out of hell, I was not impressed.

The presentation started around 12:30 with some ninjas scaling down the stage, boom bang, lights, camera, costumes!

First up, Gladiators

I love the male version of the costume, and so do the guys!!!!! the cape maybe a little extreme for some guys and leads me to wonder if the cape is optional? Anyway the female version at first sight is not a looker, with it's clichéd used of gold and red. But as I look at it more in the booklet and online, its an alright costume, it fits the theme, its not bad, its one of those last resort costumes in my book.

Next, Mongol Fighters

3.5 out of 5 swords

Now this was the gritty, rough kind of costumes I was talking about, I absolutely adore the shoulder pads!!! The headpiece with the spikes in the front. However the downfall of this costume is, the way the bra and belt are made, it will only look flattering on certain body types, primarily pear shaped chicks, the rest of, it may look alright...

The male costume in this, is not bad, save for the spiked shoulder pads and headpiece, its just another board short compilation

Persian Gold

From the time I saw the teaser video I loved the glimpse of Persian Gold! My God was it a beauty!!!! Then, that model stepped out on stage in all her glittering glory and I was sold. Thus costume is gorgeous as a frontline, the backline, is just meh. However the more I watch the costume, is the less I love it.

But where is the male version though? Oops, I bypassed it cause it was so ordinary looking, or it could be that I was so enthralled with the frontline.

Xi'An Warriors

4 out of 5 swords

This costume again is what I was looking for more of, not one single feather!!! This costume I skimpy and I love it! If I had the body for it I would definitely be wearing it.

Knights Templar

3.75 out of 5 swords

At first glance I loved the costume, but as I saw the arm pieces and started thinking about the lovely sun burn I would acquire, it lost some points. The costume blends pretty and gritty, somehow managing to stick to the theme with those arm pads, but the rhinestone work reminds me of a previous TRIBE costume, from Birds of a Feather.

The male costume is really cool though...I hope it comes with the sword!

Iroquois

5 out of 5 swords!

OH MY GOD!!!!!!! were the words coming from my mouth. Lele and I took a quick look at eachother and that was it....Iroquois was our first choice, that costume has zero gems, zero feathers, the bead work is lovely, the colour blend, lovely, overall it is just a lovely costume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is another one of my choices, I love the nude bra, with the orange, green, and blue feathers! The frontline/individual (some one clear that up please) is gorgeous!!!! It's an elegant costume. The guys, just have it ordinary again....

Masai & Tribal Warrior

A lot of people are overwhelmed by this costume and I am just....not. Basically peter took the formula to African Love Bird and changed the colours, added a standard with Kente cloth and a wicked mohawk headpiece!

As for the males, I get a strong flashback of island people Zebra, but done better.

For this section I reserve further judgement until I see costumes in person.

Arctic Warriors

This has to be the best costume in the entire presentation, it sticks to the theme, its covered but sexy! I love it, all versions of the costume looked great! I know the guys are probably battling for the individual as we speak!

NOTE for many who are concerned about bra support and this costume, the costume has a regular bra, but there are two pieces of cloth attached which gives it the wrapped around look

All in all, I would say, TRIBE did a good job! So Good of a job they made me want to play mas, however, do I have the finances to play mas is a whole other story. Stay Tuned for part 2 of this review tomorrow when I talk about BLISS.

`So it's no secret that I've been out of the action lately, but simply put a combination of my personal issues and the lack of me having anything to report about carnival is the cause of this long posting drought.....however, after seeing Saucy's post and pictures about Spice's media launch....I needed to voice my opinion.

To say I am not impressed is an understatement, as a previous Spice supporter and patronizer I am most disappointed in the sneak peak costumes displayed last night. These costumes look like bits and pieces of previous popular costumes stuck together to make an ode to those once hot costumes. It is best they call the theme "Signature Collection: Tribute to Signature Carnival Costumes"

I may sound harsh, but honesty is the best policy, I can condone slight influence from a previous successfully appealing costume, but when i watch a costume see, the blatant copy of one other popular band headpiece( from 2005? ) just in all crystals, a sea salt belt, modification with brighter crystals and cuter... and instead of a headpiece, lets take those feathers and make it into wings!

A headpiece that is a mixture of several costumes, the neck piece which has been redone and killed to death since it came out last July, a flashback of multi-coloured costume, except just not as catchy and an overall, out-of-place flashy sequin bra, blandly pink feathers.... perhaps if the feathers were brighter, the bra a plain silver lame or foil, would enhance the rhinestones, help bring them out...

I'm sorry but I just cannot get hyped for their band launch, I hope there is something else to be revealed at their band launch that can help bring the collection back to signature...

Spice Review

I have come to the conclusion that I have over hyped and over anticipated carnival so much that it became anti climatic for me.

Now my review can be considered a half review since I didn't go downtown at all on both days.

Spice has grown to be about 3 times its previous size. Kudos to them on achieving this on their 2nd year.

Monday:
My monday wear looked fine and everything. I got down to the savannah round 12 and caught them just after they crossed. So chipping now to lunch where we had to show them your ID band to get into qrc grounds. Which was all fine and well but thus created a huge bottleneck for some hungry masqueraders.

For lunch there was the option of Arabic, Creole or Specialty. I ended up in arabic where you had a choice of lamb, chicken and I can't say what the veggie box had in it. The chicken was on point! Everything else was dry in my opinion. Compared to last years food I would give them a 3 out of 5.

Back on the road again! Managed to meet a good few bloggers! Big up to everyone I saw. My big toe now start to cramp my style I hadda be limping then end up on the rest truck cause my big toe hurting like a bitch! Thus when we reached ariapita had to call it quits.

The drinks trucks were lower by far than last year but when handing me a hot drink...where's the ice? You mean I must ask for ice or drink it hot? Steups I do not remember doing that last year. That problem was rectified on tuesday though.

I did not even go on the wee wee truck every time I looked it was packed. I did hear there was no tissue in the wee wee truck.

The guy on the rest bus was veryyy nice and accommodating kudos to him

Where was the cool down truck with the water I didn't recall seeing it. Did anyone see it?

Tuesday
So I arrived about 9 just before we were crossing the stage. We waited an entire hour and a half probably in the hot sun and yuh girl forget her vex money. Thus by the time I'm crossing the stage I feel faintish I cannot even palance cause I want to dead. Lol I hurry off the stage and walk like a woman on a mission while trying to keep this head piece on my head

I take 1 bottle of water and a pepsi. That isn't enough going back for a second bottle the barman not paying me any mind. This nice men next to me gets the water for me thank you so much if you ever happen to come across this. I inhale that water I'm up to speed again lol but first I need a lil nourishment since 2 rest buses are full. So I head onto the snack truck for a lays.

I have to say now I remember why I never cross the savannah "stage" to dehydrate myself to cross not even on a proper stage but the road? Steups

We make our way to the lunch stop at this point the security stopped checking bands I ended up in specialty food. Where we got spaghetti and meat balls with a slice of garlic bread. Food was still bland but a good change up on the usual food offered by most bands. Oh I would just like to note my spice booklet had a whole other menu.

Head back on d road I go home for slipper instead of boots shed my backpack and head piece and wait for the band to reach ariapita. Rocky, buffy and tc performed but by the time they reached my truck rocky had to go handle band business. I stayed with band where they stood on ariapita for a long time waiting on what I don't know. I left the band there too.

Issue : spice's head pieces except rubies were leaning forward and flying off. Totally unexpected and irritating.

Issue : lack of damn space I actually think trucks got wider because every band is struggling for space to palance n when u start to palance there is a truck horn blaring.

Issue : lack of pr on the band leader's part. I personally had no problem with anya in collection she asked me where the rest of my receipt I explained that I got a copy from the showroom when I lost mine. But I noticed she was not as polite as rocky if she did talk to you.
As a band leader you need to be able to talk to people and many people complained about her and the way she responded to them. They were not impressed. My mother actually pointed this out to me since last year at the time I thought she was over reacting.
I also heard that on a tv interview when crossing the stage she appeared to know little to nothing about the theme. I cannot confirm or deny this since I did not watch it on tv but IF this did happen I would have hoped she knew info on her theme since she is a band leader.

Overall I think I need a break from mas. To me mas is not as much fun a before with so many masqueraders , larger trucks, little to no space to move or palance also the huge lack of respect for others and their costumes on the road mas may not see me for 2011.

EDIT TO ADD 18/2/2010

Another thing is I forget to big up the security they were doing their thing, scissors crew really cut plenty stragglers out of the band.

Also where did the little refresh station by the toilets at the rest stop go...clearly it was a mirage. I thought when you go larger, there are economies of scale to benefit from....well clearly I lied to myself

Also big up to D and her entire friends and family who adopted me!!!!

Spice Collection

My Costume - Spice Moroccan Heat

So as many of you may know, I actually thought I was down for the count for Carnival. But by the grace of God I made it and I palancin!!!!!!!!!!
So distrution starts at 12 I was there at 12:30 and there were about 20 people already. These people not playin nah! lol There were only 2 cashiers, Anya at Cash and another at Linx. I guess that because all the others did not come to cash until 12:45 or so!
Anywho the ballroom is layed out with Rocky handing out chits, the chairs to sit while waiting to collect, then there is the Last Call Costumes Bay which people who now want a costume can get one, I saw 5 people over there. There is the Express Collection where she looks over your bill and signs.
Now onto the costume. When I went to get the costume now, my cuz workin the distribution lmao as well as 2 friends on is a cashier the other in repairs. Anywho I get my costume the belt fits lovely the headpiece wonderful, bra cups and band fit wonderful until we reach the top of the bra with the halter neckpiece.
It was too long so I had to take in repairs, waited for a 10mins for them to finish the repairs they were working on and my friend hook me up! niceness in 10mins i was ready to head across....low and behold Carnival Kicks has a booth at collection! complete with boots, no prices lol to sell! So while yuh waitin on your band you taking in boots....niceness lmao.
Got my band and goody bag and was on my way. All in all collection took an hour. But Im glad I got to see Caspian sea fl backpack which is gorgeous and the fl to my costume, Moroccan Heat, which the flho said the backpack heavy...between you and me she may be a first timer lmao!

The costume is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In fact the belt is even prettier than the prototype, the colour is rich and I am excited!!!!!I must say the quality of Spice's costumes have improved drastically then last year and not one single thing dropped from costume, nothing!!! and trust me I played around with it plenty!

So the only qualm is the goody bag...is a recessionary goody bag, at least they put the sunblock in there eh! Thank God!!!!

All in all Spice gets a thumbs up for collection!

Make way for Carnival 2010 ( Monday Bra tutorial inside)

So, Finally, I feel as though I am coming into the Carnival Mix as everything is falling in place.

I've finished sewing most of the BBM orders and jsut have 7 more bags to do, excluding my own!

I spray Painted my boots gold yesterday and in the process of decorating them

I got my monday bra and decorated it already!

Tips on Monday Bra Decorating

Try to find a bra that fits you well, do not get an ill fitting bra in attempts to make cleavage or enhance cleavage.
Do not...I repeat Do Not glue on anything to the band. If you glue on anything to the band, it will not be able to stretch and thus your bra will probably not make it around your back. If it does, your design will be stretched out and crackled.
You don't have to look for a bra in your section colour, all you need is a needle, some thread a glue gun and fabric or stretch sequin bands in your section colour.

Tutorial on how to make a Monday Bra that I got from this chick on Craftster

Tut no1 - Stretch Sequin

Step1 : Stitch on the stretch sequin onto the band, horizontally!

Step 2 - Covering the side of the cup to the band, wrap at edge of cup/beginning of band and fold edges over cup and stitch

Step 3 - Using a hot glue gun, stick the other pieces of sequin band diagonally onto the cup

Step 4 - Cut the strap but remember to stitch it back when finished covering the cup

Tut no 2 Fabric Covered

Step 1- Place bra ontop of fabric and cut around it leaving an extra inch of space

Step 2- Using needle and thread or a glue gun, cover the bra and pull tightly to ensure no slack spaces! Stitch or glue the edges onto the back of the cup

Step 3 : Some fabrics such as brocade and sequin tend to be rough on skin, thus some satin ribbon should be glued on the back of the cup to cover the fabric

Step 4 : Cut out fabric 1 inch larger than band and repeat the steps taken with the bra cups!

So, I was on macobook and came across this great local site, Anatomie!

I for one will definitely be maintaining this workout, since I started very late, but honestly, I will work out and gain back everything in Christmas, so why not just start till late lol?

The Backline/Homemade Individual or Individualized Backline

So I read Saucy's post today and I have to say that after reading that and the comments, the 'Backline Individual' talk has gone too far. Being one of the people who was present in CBOX and initiated the 'Backline Individual' talk I think I need to lay down my opinion on this issue.

The Backline or Homemade Individual or Individualized Backline or what ever you want to call it is basically, when someone has a backline costume and add something extra which makes a noticeable but PLEASENT change in their backline costume. BIs are not meant to take over, overpower or push up themselves infront of their section, frontliners or individuals, as I said on the SPICE FB discussion board, they did not buy the right to do so. After FHOs and indis pay TT5k+ for their costumes, BIs have no right to push to be infront because its simply not your place.

I don't know about others, but I know the reason why I am adding a BackPack, is that I could have afforded Frontline, but simply I have other priorities and that 2K could and has been used in other areas, however I want to add a little extra so I am making a small shoulder backpack to satisfy my want of having a personalized costume. Maybe the reasons why people are looking to this phenomenon is simple maybe they couldn't have afforded a Frontline or maybe they just express themselves as a creative individual or they find their costume lacking. Perhaps if bands start introducing more options then this can decrease the number of persons wanted to take up the BI approach.

Two questions that keeps coming up are: How much is too much? and Should you contact your Band to inform them of Your customization?

In my opinion, I think that once the original costume is not recognizable or looks cosquelle, its too much. When customizing try to get the right colours and trims to match your costume, don't put brown feathers on a yellow costume,etc.

With respect to informing your band however, in my utmost honest opinion I don't find it necessary, simply because I am paying for it and when I paid and signed that dotted line, there was no fine print or contractual obligation that stated I cannot add extras. In my eyes its like buying a car, if you buy it and add rims, flare kit and spoiler, can they do something about it?

So I got my new machine and sewed my first bag of the season for Threads of Morocco!

So as most of you know, my sewing machine died this vacation, I ran through 2 machines in 9months! So i knew it was time to step up to a fully industrial machine. I searched and searched and finally found the one for me the yamata fy8500!

This machine is a God send! It sails through layers of fabric like nothing and my God is it fast, took me a while to get accustomed to it! In the end when I got the hang of it finished a bag in 5 minutes!!! Now that's a record!! I love my machine!!!!

So Its now 4 months and some weeks till Carnival 2010. Most of you should have started getting things together or now starting to by now. I must admit I'm moving a little slow this year, but I've got the ideas, just haven't done them all.

So far I've got

I got my boots yesterday!!!! I am hopping on board the wedge boot train! This pair is also featured in my boot catalogue, I have to admit I've had my heart set on them for a while now, but they kept coming in and out of stock so quickly! But finally I got my pair.

The boots came in a full length box, here I was wondering why in the hell postage was so expensive. The boots have a full length zip on the inner side as well as the lace up front so you can determine how tight you want your boots to be. The only problem is that the size runs a bit small so it fits more like a half size smaller. But they are really comfy though

Most boots, the top of the boots are hard/stiff.

This can pose a problem on the road as chippin is basically on the ball of your foot and your foot may slide forward. Thus bringing back memories of days when I used to do point ballet....enough said lol.

So here are some pointer and things you should invest in.

Gel Toe Pads

These gel pads cover your toes and protect your toes from blisters and pain.
Gel toe pads are mostly used by dancers especially for point shoes to protect their feet from blisters and ease the pain from being on pointe.

Please if you do decide to invest in them do some research look for reviews.

Please ensure you buy GEL toe pads as they provide more support than foam or cushion pads.Lamb's Wool toe pads are good too.

Hiya guys! I know its been a while, but BLINKin TSTT internet was acting up i time, so I had to switch to flow. You could believe BLINK had the audacity to have hooked up our internet connection with old wires. Steups. Anyway

Carnival is coming fast and furious and a lot of ladies and gents are getting on the band wagon of preparing accessories from early o'clock! Hey I am all for that! So with the plethora of Asian themed bands its only right that those of us in Trinidad say amen to finally being able to put those Indian trade shows to good use!!!

I see a lot of people are jumping up with the beaded shoes and flats trend for Carnival. I personally wouldn't do it, I think there is a limit to accessorizing trumps comfort, and this is one of those times, I know I totally would not be comfy in that! But for those of you who are, how about getting a little creative with your footwear.

Heading down to your local craft store stocking up on rhinestones, rhinestuds. nailheads, trims whatever you so desire and decorating your flats, that way you get to keep the creativity and fun of decorating your footwear.

I have noticed that a lot of costumes this year have gold rimmed rhinestones and rhinstuds/nailheads. Some you may be wondering what is the difference between rhinestones and rhinestuds, well rhinesotnes are crystals but rhinestuds are like flat backed metal embellishments shaped and coloured to look similar to rhinestones. For instance Loulan has gold rectangle nailheads. Rhinestuds/nailheads are great embellishments to accessorize your boots, sneakers or flats because they look good and are cheap!

Also to keep in theme with your costumes, especially those in Island People beaded arms bands should be on your accessory list. Just head on down to your local Indian Trade show if your in T'dad or you can look online in any Belly Dance shop!

My Letter to Spice

Now even though I am registered and I support them in all that they do, I cannot take their lack of communication and accomodation for certain bra sizes. I have given Spice enough time to send out a message about certain things, but all Driselle Ramjohn seems to send out is about section launching at prive and updated closing times. Simple put it annoys me that up to now Spice has not sent masqueraders a proper message about registration and prices. I am routting for Spice but they've got somethings to learn.

So here is my letter to spice, I know they ain't ging to reply but I know they'll read it.

"Hello, I have been meaning to write you guys a message for a while now concerning you lack of accommodation for certain bra sizes and lack of communication. Up to now, I have YET to receive a message about registration details! I have YET to receive a message about prices! That is just unsatisfactory! After the great and timely service you gave for 2009 what happened? Please you need to buck up on that! Why is it that frontline bras go up to 36c I can understand in terms of the monokinis, but regular bras, such as Caspian Sea, Rubies of Mumbai and Rome should go up to the same size as backline bras! Also Why are persons NOT allowed to bring in their own bra to decorate!! Honestly you guys need to be more accommodating because a lot of people are upset and unimpressed with you guys as a band about this issue, because simply put it is not done. No other band I know about rejects people even bringing in their bras for you to decorate if you don't carry their size. I am telling you as it is, a lot of people are turned OFF from the band because of that. This is not a hate mail or anything, I am just a concerned masquerader routing for you guys to be the best!"

My Spice Mas Camp Visit

So I visited the spice camp today to register for my Moroccan Heat Backline...yes I said Backline, as much as I wanted to do Frontline this coming year and even though I had the money for it, I personally felt that with that 5k+ I could do so many things with it, I've got priorities and playing frontline was not going to help me when I need to get those things done.

So spice mas camp was very nice, still think they need a proper sign than the boat. Any who the registration are and show room are nicely decorated and clean, even saw Rocky doing a little vacuuming. There were quite a few people there about four chicks registering, I must say considering last year when I went and it was empty, they've got a pretty much steady flow of people. Nicholas and Rocky were basically the PR people, they stood and answered your questions.

The registration process itself took about 10 minutes because they make you try on a bra to ensure your bra for the road fits, they also show you the bottom pieces to make sure you get the right size.

The costumes are all displayed, some on mannequins and some on the wall. Only backlines were displayed
Adulis
Still love this costumes, it is beautiful it would look really nice on the road, I love the headpieces and 'space' bra as people have dubbed it, is nice, simple and effective. The only thing I worry about is the footpieces with those beads, wouldn't it be annoying with that swinging back on your legs all the time? I don't know maybe its just me. At $3795, It's a good option in my opinion.

Ratnapura
Up to this day I still can't spell that damned costume properly.
Anyway, I don't care what anyone says this costume is cute! It is very skimpy but I think it would look good on all skin tones. Does anyone else feel like saying midnight bloom when they see it? It is the section I can still see young ones going for and those who don't like too much fuss.

Wings of Isis
This costume is sooo blinged out its not funny, bling is everywhere!I can totally understand why this is $3795.However I think this will be a stocking ripper. I love this costume, but the two wholes in the front where the cloth goes just annoys me for some reason. Although i think that cloth looks like you can remove it as I know many of you wish to do.

Thailand
My views on this cotume are still the same I totally love it. It is a gorgeous costume.

Rome
Rome is an iffy one for me, because only certain skin tones will look good in it. Its a pretty costume a little Harts reminiscent. I love the footpieces though.

Caspian Sea
In my opinion this frontline is best value for money! The Backline is also one of the better prices options.

Merchants o Venice
Up close it is a beautiful costume, however the dropping feathers on the head piece is questionable also the frontline back pack looks scanty!

Moroccan Heat
It is beautiful! A lot of intricate beading going on and it very much covers the backside well, I think its another o the better ones.

China
So the whole warrior and princess thing had me confused but the difference is in the headpiece. I still think China is an underestimated costume it is beautifully beaded, just those pieces of silk need to go!

Greece
Gosh this is another blinged costume, I love it, my sister loves it too!!! It has a lot of gems and it simply decorated but very beautiful and offers good coverage. I think its price is justified.

Rubies of Mumbai
One of The Best costumes hands down in the band! I lovee this costume and if I hadn't played red this year I would've been up in that!!!The costume is a rich vibrant red, well jeweled and decorated and one the best values for money in the band!!!

Ceylon Pearls
This backline option or whatever it is being displayed is gorgeous, I absolutely love it, its fully decorated with pearls. I think the backpack could've gotten different type of feathers to make it look fuller.

Gates of Petra
The pink is like a pink bra covered with candyfloss so it has a sparkly sheen, the beads help bring out the pink but not enough for it to look really great on a dark skinned person. But question...where were the footpieces?

Although much effort has been put into the mas camp and so, they completely failed at online public relations. Bands on the whole need to act as though blogs like Saucy's and other carnival enthusiasts do not exist and do their own public relations. Why is it that up to now Spice hasn't sent an official message stating their prices, downpayment fee and accepted methods of payment? By the way they DO NOT take credit card, cash and linx only in the mas camp. PR contributes to overall service and outside of the mas camp and I am not impressed at all! As for the prices, The prices are still the same just in TT, Do I have fool written on my face? After denying that the prices on sauce's blog were official, you come back with practically the same prices! I will say that some costume prices are justified however others are simply unreasonable in my books.Also the idea of prices, registration and website launcing all simultaneously was definitely a ridiculous idea, whoever bright plan that was need a lash. Hopefully Spice has learnt from their mistakes so far and try not to screw up anymore, because I am afraid to think of them losing any more potential masqueraders.

Spice just sent this message on Facebook because for the whole day anytime I checked the website I was seeing that foolish note

We have been working feverishly behind the scenes to get our website up and running today however due to unforeseen technical problems with our servers the launch of the website has been somewhat delayed.

For this we sincerely apologize and assure you that the website will be fully operational by tomorrow for viewing and online registration.

Our goal at Spice Carnival, since our inception, is to ensure that you, our masqueraders, have the best possible Carnival experience with unsurpassed service and beautiful costumes that are second to none.

Now, Spice,you would've had time to short out your technical difficulties if you didn't decide to do everything simultaneously and opened up prices and website this weekend like us potential and past masqueraders asked/suggested!
I am holding all my comments till my visit to the camp tomorrow. Unfortunately I got held back by the rain today. Such is life.

On their Facebook Fan Page yesterday Spice Carnival said :

"Hello all, the prices on the blog are not official prices... The prices will be officially published on Monday 10th August on www.spicecarnivalband.com."

My only qualm is why open camp,website, registration and release prices all on the same day. I personally believe the prices should've been released today along with mas camp being open for viewing costumes, therefore giving persons ample time to really decide what costume you want and to organise funds over the weekend. Well I hope that the prices come out early Monday morning.

So last night I created a heated post about those rumoured spice prices on sauce blog.
I will still say if those really are spices prices they need to be revised asap as already their potential masqueraders are dropping like flies.
I converted some of the back line prices and at 6.3 exchange rate the prices range between $3672.90 - $3987.90. Compared to last year where u couldve gotten a back line in spice for under $3000 and their most expensive bl was $3495 I think ( will edit later when m y internet comes back)
The only front line prices I think are really justified are caspian sea and greece. With all those feathers and jewels in caspian and that totally blinged out monokini. The others can do with revising.
Think about it a jump from your most expensive costume being 4800 to this is not practical for band like them just coming into your second year. Prices should gradually increase not just sky rocket. My final statement still remains. Demand is a funny thing and it can fall as quickly as it rises. So if these prices are really true reflection of spices prices forecast expected downfall in demand

Yes I said it!!! SPICE is on SHIT!!! You know why?! I 'll tell you why those m.c. prices are too outrageous for a new band such as themseleves to be having! YEAH you in demand and YEAH your costumes nice, but I am not and I repeat not amused nor satisfied at all!!!!! I paid $3975 this year for my FL which was great, last year their highest priced FL was $4800....so whats up with the 1200-2000 increases jed?Just remember Spice demand is a funny thing and just as quick as it rise it d same way it will fall!!!

Hey SPICE Crew!!

It's that time again!!

Band launch is over and you guys have seen all of our costumes for carnival 2010.

We are currently in the process of putting the final touches on the showroom...you guys know that we have to have it SPICY for when you get here.

We want all of you guys to know how much we appreciate the support that you have given us last year and that you continue to give us for our 2010 presentation "THE SPICE ROUTE."

I know that everyone was looking forward to registration beginning on the 3rd of August , but due to some factors that are way beyond our control we have been forced to postpone it to the 10th of August instead. This delay however, is to ensure that we maintain the quality service that has become synonymous with Spice Carnival Band.

Please don't be angry with us, we are more disappointed than you guys!! :(

So here's the official schedule:
Monday 10th August 12-8 pm (Spice 2009 masquerader registration)

Tuesday 11th August 12-8 pm (Spice 2009 masquerader registration)

Wednesday 12th August and onward- Open to the public (Monday to Saturday 12-8pm)

Spice....yuh stickin

Over the past few days, my friends and I have been eagerly awaiting Spice's prices....but alas no prices...Last year the band also launches on the 19th which was a Saturday the website was up by the time I came home from the launch and prices were up by the Friday!!!!
So what happen this rounds? I've been nice but we about to go into August and registration is supposedly Monday...as in Monday the 3rd! As in the Monday after this weekend and we have yet to get a message from Spice on anything regarding registration.....so I'll say it again.... and this time not so nice....(takes a deep breath woosah mimi woosah) Spice where is the F@$%in prices...lmao

Tribe Costumes... In my opinion

I know many of you know that I love to play in Spice, but this is my objective review of Tribe costumes

When I first got the booklet I was liking the costumes in the book especially Osage and Tyrian Purple and Xi Ling Shi...I bypassed Mystery of Loulan, I didn't even realise it was in there until someone talked about it, then I had to go and look back again.

The overall Launch is not something I was impressed with, there were times when there was a huge lull on stage and the lighting was off...the lights should've been off when a new section comes on stage not while a section is on stage.

Mystery of Loulan was first out the gate from what I remembered.
The costume is really Nice with beige and bright blue...sort of aqua blue! I like how the blue really makes the costume pop, but can we say remake of Birds of Paradise...except in blue and the Premium Frontline/Individual(?) with a blue Brazillian Macaw Belt. The model really worked that PFL/Indi though...boy oh boy you should've seen her go! Props to her! The rest of the models need to move about like that...she sold that costume for sure!

Silk of Rajasthan....the Mumbai clone/ I dream of Jeanie flashback...
Honestly when I saw this both in Launch and book I was not impressed. I always expect something nice from Peter Elias...I loved Jean and Dinah and African Love Bird...but this is the most disappointing costume I've seen from him. The type of red used with that yellow gold makes the costume look dirty in a kind of way..that's the only way I can describe it. a different fabric should be used because I think it doesn't fall properly...It kind of puckers up where its attached to the waist piece...and is the I dream of Jeanie ponytail included? However Elias gets two thumbs up for sticking to the theme!!!

Eri...Silver Mist comeback again

this was one of the costumes I saw in the book that I wasn't feeling at all...I does not show up well in pictures period. This is what silver mist should've looked like! It's a nice costume but it bares tooo much resemblance to Silver Mist...and the FL is What silver mist would've looked like with a feather backpack!

Zari....the youngin section

This section just screams my first time playing mas. It is cute, I like the colour combination but it looks like it belongs in Harts, I think it's just perfect for the 16yrs and such now getting into playing 'Big People Mas'

Tyrian Purple

This is one of the costumes I saw in the booklet and thought...this is beautiful I can see this selling out on day1 of Tribe Registrations, it is a very elegant costume...if I were to go back to Tribe this would've been one of my choices. However this costume reminds me of Mystique meets Birds of a Feather with the winged jewel designs on the bra. Now this frontline or indi....with the bustle....how am I supposed to wine in that..It looks nice when the person dances but I got be takin front wine all day!

Serica....serica...serica

This was one from the booklet that got the crazy eye and it still gettin the crazy eye....this costume is pure madness...back to the drawing board asap and lets not get into the white sash on the FL. They can keep the Premium FL / Indi(?) though that looks nice!

Mulberry....The safe green

This costume is very pretty. The shade of green is lovely. The silk pleated bra...very nice. There are many options for this costume...I am still trying to figure out which is which..but they're all very nice...however i think that bra is a bit bare for both backline and frontline.

Lapis Lazuli....

This costume is nice you know...but its a lot of blue...this will be one of those costumes that people buy just to get into TRIBE or it can be another teenie bopper costume. The headpiece is gorgeous though!

Habotai...d pink costume with black punkie tassels

If allyuh know how I hate anything that hanging between you crutch that isn't fabric eh! Just like Autumn Sprite I hate the black tassels at the belt swinging between my legs! Is not even 3 tassels its 4!The shade of pink is lovely, but something aside from the swinging punkie tassels is off with this costume and I think its how the headpiece frames the face. Lets not talk about the La Diabless corset individual...does it come complete with cow foot too?
The frontline was nice..but i think the coque feathers on the foot pieces should've been shorter.

Firesilk....
This costume needs to be reworked and re-presented...the best thing on it is the headpeice...

Charmeuse!....simply gorgeous!Don't you feel gorge just saying it?
This costume is soooo gorgeous! Wow!! This is my favourite and sorry to say but I like it more than Loulan! But the colour combo reminds me of Water Nymph...but a brighter blue..more turquoise in colour.Also...i've seen that headpiece before...oooo Rubies...right right .Nevertheless,This would've been another one of my choices if in Tribe

Osage!!! Lovin the Orange..

It seems like Orange is a hot colour this year!!! this costume is hands down the best orange costume I have ever seen!!! This will be another quick seller like Loulan, Tyrain and Charmeuse! at first I wondered if it was too much orange...but I think Osage will be just fine!

Threads of Morocco

I am going to be honest I do not like this costume soo much...its a bit coskel in my books... Something about it just doesn't look right...I don't know what it is but when I find out I'll let you know.....

Xi Ling Shi!!! Squeal!!!!
I LOVE this costume! The colour combination is just wow!!!! This is one of the best betty costumes. However it didn't wow me enough to not realise that the beads are left overs from Spangled Cotinga though! The Front line is nice as well as the Individual...but dare I say too many feathers on the Indi...it was referred to as big bird...

Male costumes

Boy did they treat allyuh fellas shitty...The male costumes were brought out in two groups and shown for about 2 minutes...If you actually got to see the costume and what belong to what section....you good yes! There were some individuals. A male indi for Tyrian and another for Mulberry. They were both nice...but I am not sure about the long pants. Silk of Rajasthan won hands down as the best male costume. The rest of costume...from the glimpse I got were very generic and reminded of costume from back in 2001....fellas I feel your pain.

These random individual costume...were they part of the show or part of the band.
The IPM butterfly remake....what was up with that! If it is indeed part of the band I suggest revising the body of the costume...the bra and belt need to be reworked and redone!

Overall...I think a lot of effort was put into Frontline and Individual and headpieces overall, but the bettys suffered with the generic costumes that can fit into any theme! TRIBE usually sticks to their theme so I was surprised to see this from theme...perhaps they focused too much on the competition or perhaps they should've never changed the name... let me hear your thoughts...please keep it nice

So guys spice has moved from it's location on Tragarete Road to Upper Rosalino Street....interesting. Also the mas camp is open from Monday coming for viewing, Website launch is 3rd of August, which leads me to believe registration starts either on that day or soon after.

But I have a question. In the picture below Moroccan Heat has a backpack, but in the book there is no back pack! Is the back pack optional? We'll find out!

Spice Route - 2010 Spice Band Launch

So, Ladies and Gents I just came back from Spice Band Launch a while ago, and I have to say I am excited!
I arrived about 8 o'clock with huzzy and sister in law. Spotted the Sauce
The tv screens in Zen showed a nice lil slide show of 2k9 masqueraders giving us a hint that the show would start soon. After a while I went to the front of the stage and assume the position.

The Presentation started off with a little narration of what Spice Route is all about, but to tell you the truth I really wasn't listening because I was just a tad too busy waiting in anticipation!

First out the gate was Rubies of Mumbai. It was definitely a crowd pleaser
Female: The backline is a scaled down version of the Frontline with both cups of the bra decorated the same and only cloth on the waistpiece and smaller version of FL headpiece, minus the peacock feathers. You already have my review of Rubies of Mumbai

Male: I am pleased to see that the males are not only board shorts! With the whole Indian look going, flowing pants, arms pieces, the headpiece everything just works! not too sure about the neck decor, looks a bit heavy for the guys! But I like it alot

China! Simply Cute!

Female Backline: My goodness, I like China alot! I think this is another slightly underestimated one! Very cute, I can see a lot of young ones going with his section.
The costume is a mixture of forest green and bright green. The bra has that design blending into eachother, then covered in green teardrops rhinestones and diamante cord! The belt has a ubber cute applique in the middle, with more teardrops and rhinestones and green donut whole trimmings falling! Arm pieces has silk on it! Not too fond of all that flowing but it works together
The headpiece though, is very gorgeous, it was one of the first things I notice
Frontline : The same as the backline but a larger headpiece this is for the new FHO's those who want to take it easy, get accustom to FHOness or those who like simpler stuff.
Male: I wasn't over impressed with this male, It was the regular board short, with gold and green belt, chest and arm piece, the headpiece though was totally Chinese , not to mention D lil chinee they brought out to model it. But i can see this section as one of those sections, that the fella plays in just cause he wants to play mas or wants to play with his girlfriend.

Adulis! The section I can't pronounce nor spell! Just like its name it different!
So after mellow little China come off stage, there comes this Mohawk headpieces! Bam! attention stirred already!
Female: From photos it doesn't look like much, but it is very interesting costume. It's bronze and gold colouring match perfectly and the applique on the belt together with those tassels really work together. But the headpiece just stole the show, the cream, orange and bronze mohawk is pure fire!!!
Male : Boardshorts, bangle for arm pieces, the belt is cool, the headpiece is simple, the leg pieces are bangles also. Not much to say about this

Caspian sea crashes in!
The backline is cute! Another teen costume again or a costume for the simpler betties, I love blue and its a fine blend of all the different shades of blue, not to mention the bling
The headpiece is good size, not too large, not too small, just right and I love the arm pieces!!! I've always had a love for feathered arm pieces.
Frontline has already been discussed moving on
Male: Its a blinged out costume that's for sure,not much to say on it either.

Next stop...Thailand! Doh Juk me!
This is one of my favourite costumes!!!!! I loved it.

Female : Betty: The heavily blinged out bra and waistpieces complete with applique are gorgeous! And the straps have lil shoulder pieces which are totally cute!!!! Just becareful how you bend down! your eye might get poked! The headpiece is average size with feather and a totally thai applique in the middle!
This is one of my favourite Betty costumes
Frontline: This is a wicked frontline! The caged bra and belt are totally blinged out. The bra attached to the neck, so its a halter! Headpiece is just feathers, feathers and more feathers, my goodness, It is really big!!! But it locks like the comfier out of some I saw tonight. Shoulder pieces just scream move out my way I am a leather FHO!!!
This is just another one of my favourite costumes! But due to the cage bra, is definitely not an option for me!!!!

Male: Its another pretty standard male costume, blinged out (as the way Spice does it) The headpiece, is very much sticking to the theme.

Wings of Isis!

this section is veryy cute, and the pictures don't do it justice. I love the male costume for this section!!! I also love the frontline for this section, the patterns on the bra and the sexy monokini especially with teal as the base colour with the gold and the plethora of different rhinestones are absolutely gorgeous

Up Next....Gates of Petra...the pink

So yes ladies the pink is finally here.

Betty: The backline is very simple!Pink satin finish bra with organe beads and gold accents. The headpiece of gorgeous it also has a cape. This backline is simple and beatiful at the same time

Frontline! One of my options!!! Oh my godness I am loving the monokini absolutely loving it! and the size of the headpiece makes up for the simplicity of the costume.

Male: Ehhh...It a bit on the ordinary side.

Merchants of Venice...but wait a next green!

Something about this costume took me back to GHC but its another one of my favourites.

The betty: the costume nice, but it skimpy!!! My word!!! I love how the headpiece falls with the feathers cascading to shoulders....mimicking hair. I love it.

Frontline: The belt is gorgeous, totally blinged out and the backpiece is cute, small and easy to handle! This is great for a beginner or Intermediate FHO lol

Male: The mask concept is very much the total intriguing part of this costumes, its different!

Greece!! Greece is the word!

Now not only is Greece like my favourite destination I want to go to but it is now my favourite carnival costume. This one stole the show and I'll tell you why

betty: The placements of the rhinestones vertically coming down the bra cup and horizontally across is brilliant, the wrap belt is great, this costume is really suited for all shapes and sizes

Frontline A: Yes I put an A after it, because this section has 3 frontlines!!!! yup Greece doin it big!With the totally blinged out monokini, Tiara styles headpiece with major feathers and cape, this takes the no.1 spot on my list!!!!

Fronline B/ Indi: *dead* my God! That's all I have to say....pictures alone!

Fronline C/ Male Indi : More like Frontline M for the males have a frontline or individual. and if I was a man I woulda totally go for it! nuff said

Male: I loved this costume another one of the best!

Morrocan Heat!!!!!

If I was a betty I playing in that for sure!!! The bra is awesome! doubling as bra and neck piece! The headpiece is gorg! Though part of it reminds me of touch from IP It is gorgeous

Frontline: *Showstopper....thats all I can say.I think it jsut bumped greece out of the number 1 spot

This costume is undersestimated and the models did it no justice!!!!!!!!

RATNAPURTA...ah get boff for that name lol

This costume screams fun!!! with the black base and multicoloured trimming, it has won me over.....who say spot number 3 on the lsit

Last but not least!

Ceyelon Pearls and Northern star

These stole the show...if only I used to wear white. Hoewever this costume looked at though it was a bit much for the models

Althought the presentation was good, the models weren't some really sold their costumes but others acted as though they either

didn't want to be there
were tired
were vex
didn't know what the hell to do!
had the devil on their heels, because if you see how fast they moving

But other than that, I applaud Spice and It's designers..Richard and anthony blew us away!!! Registration starts in early August! So let me hear your feedback!

Droping the Weight!

Carnival 2009 is over and 2010 is speeding towards us. Getting caught up with the hype and choosing costumes, by the time you think about weight it's October and your goal is almost impossible or requires drastic measures. After this carnival, in the past two months I've put on a good few pounds and I intend to lose them. Although weight comes on quickly, its three times as hard to get it off.

Solution:
Start excersizing NOW!!!!

Dropping Weight = Cardio
Cardio = Weight Loss

Here is my plan
Areas that need to be worked on:
Triceps
Back
Stomach
Thighs

What am I gonna do about it:

Running
Tip: Run for about 45mins to an hour per day...start off slow and gradually build up speed and time, don't just jump in willy nilly or else your body will cuss you out!

Cycling
Really works the legs and calves in my opinion.

I would do spin but it aggrevates my back!

Herbalife
Yes I know I was supposed tos tart since last year but i will this year, i promise

Spice Carnival 2010... Choose Your Route!

UMM Why it is Island People so silent? I meant they aren't my band of choice, but I find I ain't hearing nothing from IP or even IPers!
Why am I not even hearing some kind of bachannal?!!! We almost in July!!!

In my opinion, I find these bands reall stickin on the info blasts!Steups! I have questions that need to be answered

Can't Touch This!!!

A blogger asked if TRIBE can touch Spice with their designs. Can they? Let's face the facts; first, Island People stopped being a real threat to TRIBE practically 2yrs ago, after the two bands and respective followers settled themselves. Second, I think TRIBE was in need of some serious competition -competition that willl make a TRIBER even consider taking a deep into the Spice-y sea waters- after all competition is what motivates a business. Third, Spice is that competition!

I am sure most of you have heard of the design challenge issued between designers of the two popular bands, my question is who do you think will come on top?

In my most unbiased opinion, I do believe Spice and TRIBE are on a similar level with respect to quality, both bands treat their customers like gold and produce costumes of great quality in comparison to other bans, who materials look cheap, faded, used and abused.

On the road, I was stopped many times by persons asking if Spice was TRIBE...I believe that alone spoke for itself. However at the designing level, I am not quite sure they're going to be on par any more. The Designing Duo, Richard and Anthony have taken Spice to higher heights this year, judging on their costumes from the Media Launch compared to this past season I think Spice can only go in one direction... and that's up.

With all the new sparked attention Spice is getting I hope that they don't end up in a situation where they aren't ready for the influx in demand thus resulting in the same situations from other Now It bands when they were on the come up.

The Carnival 2010 Train has just started, we know you have your ticket and you're on board, but it's in which coach your in? Are you in The Spice, TRIBE,or some other band's Coach?

We'll see how it goes on July 19th and 25th

So, Saucy attended Spice's Media Launch, and has uploaded pictures. The launch featured front lines from two sections Caspian Sea and Jewels of Mumbai.

Rubies of Mumbai. The Underestimated

This costume has brought a very interesting twist to a lot of Indian costumes I've seen, It is absolutely Gorgeous.
Great costume, but hate it at 1st sight, love at 2nd, 3rd and 4th!

The Headpiece:
At First glance the headpiece is underestimated, however at closer inspection it is very beautiful and detailed complete with red peacock feathers and rhinestones. The headpiece is meticulously adorned with red, clear rhinestones and gold beads creating patterns. It is definitely one of a kind!

The Bra:
Oh My Goodness look at that bling!!!!
The bra has a complex design, that is out of this world, however what is bothering me is how does the jewels exactly fall. From what I understand, one half of the bra has a different pattern from the other, and the cape is attached to the jewels which is attached to the bra and the upper arm pieces look like if they are attached the bra.

Waist Piece:
Somebody say skimpy!
The waist piece is what I call underlying skimpyness...i.e. you sooo caught up in the jewel design that you don't realise the waist piece is rhinestones chains and cloth! If I had the kind of body for it, and I didn't play red this year I would've been in this costume!!!

The Leg Pieces
Gladiator Style leg pieces are my favourite honestly, for ppl like who calves are just a bit too small, can enjoy these kind of leg pieces, because they are attached at 3 different points! Thees will look sooo good on boots, preferably a brown or tan or gold!

Caspian Sea . Gyal yuh look so Stunning!!!
This costume is just ridiculously stunning (as Machel say) I mean come on!!!!! The use of Aqua and Sky Blue is magnificent!In my opinion it would look great on people with wide waist and smaller top.( i.e. Coke or Pear)

The Headpiece
It is gorgeous! The colour, the beading! I love it.

The Bra!
My word! Look at all those beads and crystals, it is heavily decorated!With the clear rhinestone to imitate what I am guessing is sea wave patterns with teardrops and a rhinestone applique hanging from the middle. At the beginning I wasn't a fan of that applique just dangling there, but it has grown on me

The Belt
The centre of the belt mimic the applique at the bottom of the bra! It looks gorgeous and is totally blinged out!!!

Wrist Pieces,
Are jsut divine, I love it, the way how thw bend the cord? wire? into the curve, with the teardrop rhinestones dangling! I love it!

The Back piece
Wayyyyyyyyyy!!! Look at Feathers!!! You make me wannna......

Hmmm. The best part of this costume! This is what makes it soooooo desirable! The back piece spouts out like wings! With feathers of 2 different types of blues and rhinestone and beading detail, I personally think this costume is just divine, and I like many other bloggers are in love!

The leg pieces
nothing out of the ordinary, more or less regular pieces

Bottom Line!
I can't wait for the Band Launch at Zen on the 19th of July!!!!! Richard and Anthony have outdone themselves with this and I can see the load of time and effort that went into these costumes! Two thumbs up!!!

So I was looking through Ramajay Mas band launch photos because the costume saucy put up on her post today was really interesting. This green costume- Green Jasper- has a mini semi replica of Peppercorns collar. Just minus the feathers, colour it green and make it a little smaller.

Things I have learnt in the past week

Once again, I have nothing to report on so I will tell you what I've learnt in the past week

Stupid Questions Deserve Stupid Answers
Some make up ideas are to remain just what they are.... ideas! (see picture below)
Costume trends are being recycled faster than paper
Finding size 11 flat boots that are attractive and under US$70 is hard to find
Memorial Weekend is the time to make sure you've got monetary funding on your credit card that you can shop like a mad woman!( just let ya'll know I missed this one lol Still cussing up till now)
Pre-Fab houses are the shit! And will probably be all my generation will be able to afford by the time we are financially stable
Car tax is a biatch! You know the tax that is added in addition to VAT that jacks up the price of any new car...good Lord
Zac Efron did not sing the songs for High School Musical 1(gasp!) and a cute lil Canadian guy named Drew Seeley did. (he's gonna be Prince Eric in the Little Mermaid on Broadway this summer, see picture of drew at the bottom)
Sure enough anywhere in the world there is a trini scamp ( see article here)

Just as the post says, I have absolutely no gossip, no carnival info to post on, This pre band launching/ post Trini Carnival season is a drab. Just with the occasional, St.Lucian band recreating costumes. There isn't much going on, that I know about to tell you.

So basically I've been spending time just being lazy, until my courses start. I am looking to take some cosmetology and advanced cake decorating courses to satisfy my thirst for learning more trades.lol.

I got my first blackberry, a 8320 for a grand total of TT$1630!(including the TT$300 customs charge and the TT$36 sky box freight charge) Take that b mobile with your ridiculous price of $3500! Isn't it cute? I already pimped it out with custom skins from Vision Skins and Unique Skins!lol All I had to do was just sign up for BIS everything worked great outside the box!!!

I am joining the gym from next month with the huzzy! Because I've thrown on alot of weight since Carnival and I now look like an elephant! lol

Oh I am also unleashing some bigger plans for Bags By Mimi this coming season, I'll be importing some necessities that will be unleashed as soon as band launching season kicks off!!!

How to rock boots!

So I really do appreciate the shift from sneakers to boots, it's good to see everyone trying to look their best, but I have a few problems.

Problem1
Do not and I repeat do not wear your leg piece above your boots unless it is supposed to go on your thigh. Please just don't do it, it looks ridiculous!

Problem 2
make sure your boots do actually match with your costume or are a neutral colour like tan or brown.

Problem 3
When decorating your boots, please actually follow a pattern and not just throw diamante, beads and braid anywhere.

Well that's all I have for now, I will not even put up the pictures I saw. If you have any more problems with the way ppl rocked their boots drop me an email!

You kow, in every band, there is always that one girl that everybody does have to stop and stare. That one person that when you say TRIBE, you remember her!!! Ladies and gents I present to you my selection of Carnival queens for the bands I saw!

SPICE

Yuh see this woman here! I don't know if it was the hair that was gelled and curled to perfection. I don't know if it was the matching red glittered down boots, I don't know if it was the flawless make up! but somebody pleease give thislady a frontline costume for 2010 becasue dahlin yuh didn't deserve to be a babe this year nah!!!
This woman loooked flawless on both days yuh know! and when she dance it was all eyes on her. Honey I give yuh props, so much so I almost give her meh backpack and tell her represent!!!!

TRIBE
Oh gosh, there were more than one set of queens in this band! oh gosh allyuh I am sure yuh friends(male) still talkin about that sweet girl they see in TRIBE, it was a fact this year the bessness ratio in TRIBE (both female and male) was high this year. Inot going to lie, when I went to check my friends and them this year at TRIBE's lunch stop, I was so glad I ddin't play in TRIBE because I would've felt so insecure with my big belly that it not funny!!! Anywho down to business.
Everybody remembers that one ruby topaz frontline, who just looked divine!!!

Oh gado allyuh I was tooo tired to write this up last night, so it had to wait till today.
Anywho, so yuh girl had to get her make up done, I was one in three frontlines so I had to come correct!!!

So afterwards I ended up meeting the band probably around10 o'clock somewhere there. so we chip for a while (they had just crossed the stage) and we took a lil break for a 15 mins, where there were dancers and stuff doing a lil something something, encouraging even masueraders to join if they wanted to(see second video). It was very entertaining,and a pleasent surprise. We then went for lunch, which was similar menu, I had BBQ chiken, potato salas and fresh salad. There were peas in the box, but I didn't eat it.(peas!ugh!)

And lucky for me, the rain fell while we were eating so I parked my rass in the bleachers and ate.
After I ate, I went to tribe and looked for my girlies then waited till the rain subsided and we were back in search of the band. So wew text Weh D band and they gave us the wrong address. So while the text said on Warner and Cipriani, they were really crossing Adam Smith Square!!!! So you could imagine my rage hhenI missed crossing yet another Stage!!!!!!!!!!

So we had to trek down to the band and met them intime to cross synergy stage!
So while yuh girl was taking a pic with me friend from some tourist, as soon as I walked away to leave, there were more pics, in the end my firend and I stayed for about 15 mins taking pics....i felt bitey! I felt like a shilling!!! now ah know how machel felt monday night when ppl were bombarding him for pictures outside spice mas camp! so when you see me all over the place let me know!

So anywho so i cross d synergy stage and we made our way into down town where we were given snacks( lollies and some damn good aloopie!) we probably waited about an hour or 2 to cross the stage and oh gado allyuh i realll represent for d Scotch Bonnet crew, before meh battery give out on me n i had to recharge like d lucozade man (mimi gettin old yuh know)
anyway we had fun and the band stopped by the mas camp around 8

My only quams about tuesday was that for a good bit of the day the security was laxed and the dj had to constantly keep the 'Rope' security in check! Also the trucks were moving very fast at points in time and need to slow it down a bit!
and last but not least, after we cross downtown the wee wee truck then goes back to wherever it came from, so affter down town, no wee wee truck! What the hell?!At LEAST make an announcement when the wee wee truck leaving nah

So I must say alll the costume....alll! even Garden of Sage loooked good! I was extremely
happy with my costume and the collar was verrryyy comfortable! and a lot of people were impressed with the band!!!!In fact one of my brother's friends admitted he was sold on Spice and will indeed play next year! I know for a fact that Spice has a theme for next year,what it is though? I can't tell you ha!

SPICE Monday!

So yuh girl had a ball!!!!! I palance for all of you people who did not make it for Carnival!
So Spice was meeting 9am but uh girl reach 12. Just in time for lunch!
FOOD:
I had Bar-B- Que which tasted good but needed some dressing. It was a lot of food and yuh girl ketch her rass to eat it, i could've only eaten about a half.

EYE CANDY:
We got on the road and I must admitt that the eye candy factor...could get a 4 out of 5! Because MY GOODNESS the man dem fine!!!!! and d girls sweet too...

VIBES:
The band turn out was small at the beginning but it grew alot, but I know for a fact that the actual numbers in the band are alot, so much so that apparantly Scotch Bonnet sold out!
The Vibe was also very nice and I saaw a ltop of people who played in TRIBE last year in that band. And apparantly we looked so good I was asked about 4 times if this was TRIBE.
It was jamishness till 7!

LOO:
The bathrooms/ wee wee truck was extremely clean, complete with mirror and foot pump sink and soap, that never ended! It was complete with pins, muscle relaxer, pain killers, pads, tampons, panty shields (regular and thongs)

BAR:
The bar was very good the people were uber polite! I never had polite service like that ever!!!!!!
And the drinks were good, I didn;t here anything about running out.

All in all,I loved their vibe, their service, everything! But again this is only Monday, we will find out Tomorrow!

I have to say colour stay is the best, I ddin't have to do any touch up!!! at all! love it!

so as some of you know, I was not going to paint my boots because they are too cute for that So i just added a feather boa that I got at Tulip for $125.00 ( yes allyuh I finally got it!)

Then I headed into the mall tonight after I met up with bunny!

So i got myself 2 stockings from Westport for $20 each and a hat

I went into Pennywise and picked up some Braid spray

Revlon Lash Fantasy Mascara

Revlon Color Stay Foundation!

Eye brow blades

Arista compact in Nutmeg! (Yes i got it!)

Then checked into Wonerful world

got myself some HIP eyelashes

Some earrings that were on sale 2 for $12 to match with my costume

So now onto the costume itself

So this is the bra, it looks the same as it did

The Waist piece looks good as gold also

The leg pieces, look shorterr and this the smarted thing I've seen, they but one elastic strap so that they can fit properly, very smart!
The arm pieces, I noticed were missing the feathers, so I added my own ( perks of left over stock from bag making! lol)

Neck piece is gorgeous! The sraps were a little long so I cut it and added velcro

Headpiece, the had an elastic band at the base, which if I even tried will take off any eyelashes and jewels I will have on for tuesday. SO you know your girl cut it as added velcro!( long live almight velcro!)

BackPack/ shoulder Pack
It looked good, but somehow I can't put my finger on it but it feels a bit differnt from the proto type! Butit's good still and surprsigingly comfy!

CONS

The looses sequins keep dropping a bit

The glueing is a bit untidy
Arm pices were a little stiff
Headpiece elastic just a bit too tight!

PROS

Even though the sizes were off the bra has good support
Easily adjustable waist piece.
Easily adjustable leg pieces.
Light backpack and headpiece

All in all I love my costume!!!

So I was aiming to reach Spice at 2pm but due to certain issues, yuh girl did not reach until 3:15pm.
Anyway, when I arrived, I was greeted by a tenet and about 10 people for the most sitting under it.So my boy CJ who was handlin the tent, told me to take a seat n wait in a while, I probably waited for 15 minutes and then was called upstairs, we I meet 5 people in the front room, seated waiting to be called for payment.

After I waited about 10 minutes there, we were called to sit and wait till a cashier clears up in order for us to cash. ( Does this musical chairs sound familiar? :::(Insert cough here)TRIBE(and here)::: Anyway, moving, now this is where the real test of patience and waiting came through. I probably sat waiting for the cashier to clear for about 30 minutes. No lie. There were 3 cashiers, one dedicated to the right side of the room, and there were another 2. The other 2 were kept up for about 30 minutes. The first cashier, apparently a couple who register in Prive, their registration info was not entered on the computer so they had to go in d filing cabinet and manually find their files. The second cashier had a couple who were collecting for like the wholeee nation!

So after my mother unleash the bad Grenadian in her, and had some words with Anya ( no foul language! my momma has class ppl!) Anyway, the cashiers cleared up, we waited for about 5 minutes and got on our way. The cashier however did not check my ID and I am worried that if that is her regular practice that ppl could be walking away with costumes.

Anywho! I got my fully printed receipt and was then ushered (by the same girl who registered me, the one who modeled Peppercorns (she nice eh!)) Anyway, got ushered where i got FHO treatment, I was asked what bra size I would like to try on, Tried on several bras, until coming to a conclusion of a 36DD which by the way is no where near my size. I was shocked to see that the straps, weren't clear but where also red!! yay!!!!

Then I was asked what size is my waist, i said 38" and was presented with a large belt, tried it on, and apparently yuh girl lost reall inches because It was over big! So much so I had to change to a medium because no matter how much you had adjust it, it was just too big!!!

Afterwards, I was shown how to put on my back(well shoulder) pack! and got my panty and extra boyshorts, which btw i heard from bunny that they are the same as Tribe's own and I believe they may be locally made, but they fit good though!

After that, I picked up my stuff and headed to the last table where I got my goodie bag and band! I even have a band for the toilet, look ting!

SOLUTIONS:-

Perhaps they should designate a cashier especially for those who registered outside of the camp like in Prive and Wicked in White
and another for those collecting for groups of more than 3.

But unlike me, who had a relatively smooth collection, Sapo, on the other hand ( one of the bloggers) had to switch from her Scotch Bonnet Frontline to Cardamom Frontline, because of how the bra fit. The cups are short and therefore everything was outside for Sapo, so she had to switch. Also Rene also didn't get her Headpiece for Sea Salt FL till today and that costume was due for collection since THURSDAY!
But all in all for a new band, they weren't too bad for first timers!

So I decided I am not spray painting my boots, because it is too cute for that! I love it and I don't want to 'spoil' it as my brother who hardly if ever comments on my clothes and shoes! So anyway, my niece, (yes d fiery one I does talk about) is having some kind of Carnival jump up in her school where they have costumes and stuff. I don't know what the costume looks like but all I know was it is supposed to be red and gold. Hence, the shoes!
Yes i did it myself!

So here are the steps.

tape off sole and areas you don't want to get painted!
i spray painted the entire shoe
spray on glue and let it set for 2-5 minutes or dictated time.
sprinkle glitter on shoe, leave for about 5 minutes then tap shoe to get extra off.
add any other decorations!
finito!

And I am going to braid my hair tomorrow!!! yay!!!

Campus Carnival 2009

So as some of you know Campus Carnival was Friday gone and Iw as actively involved, since my sister in law and her boyfriend were bringing out a band...Children of the Forest! It was 2008 reigning champs! And in my honnest opinion all things aside, it was the best looking band...honestly.

Campus Carnival is a good option to those who do like playing mas but not in the day, who cannot afford to pay $2500 and up for a costume and those who just want to have a little fun before Carnival monday and Tuesday to get them in the mood. The bands, most of them if not all are all inclusive with drinks and food. Mostly cornsoup and doubles or something simple like that. Don't go expecting to get a TRIBE or IP bar; Remember it is students who are organising it after all ...

But what I could tell you it was reallll jamishness! It put me in the right mood for this coming week, so much so that I don't feel I could think straight nah, all I hearing in my head s soca, and all I seeing is me, on people dem car wining down d place. And d hubby wasn't around for too long ( like he was trying to make this resemble carnival monday and tuesday) it was even more jamishness!!!!! All i have is memory of me stick up on d side of somebody car(poor ting) while my friend sabrina...(yes sabrina who does make d bags n dem! ) pelt waist liek it goin out of style and back it up on me...it was bachannal! But I am ttelling you I exectued FHOness to the highlest elvel...the face was always on point, I was captivating plenty camera, Ie ven chop up meh jersey and make it an off the shoulder top! Yes! I executed it quite ell for a first timer, it is safe to say I am ready for d road!!!!

But my sister in law will make a good FHO look at this girl cosutme that she made all by herself nah!! I am proud!!!!

Make up and SPF for OTR

Well campus carnival was last night! And oh gosh it was gooodddd!!!1 I don't know why it wasn't next weekend so I would've been in the right frame of mind for Monday and Tuesday.
So I applied Black Opal Creme Stick once again and I must say I am very pleased! It withstand all the sweating, don't mind it was the night time, I was still sweating profusely. With just a little touch up of arista compact powder ($14.95 Pennywise)

I think for the divas who don't want to go through the trouble of adding lashes an option is lash extending mascara. It really does work and I love it! I use L'Oreal Double Extend Mascara, It's a little on the costly side but its worth it!
And the tip Afro Chic gave once about the fix it spray and eyeshadow! Great tip! I tried it and my eyeshadow stayed on so well and was so vibrant that I even when I wet myface, it stayed on!!!

So basically here are the make up tips!

do make sure, you're brushes and sponges are clean before application
make sure face is properally primed
use fix it sprays and setting powders
use oil control/blocking mechanisms like Black Opal Oil Blocking powder. Mac Oil Control Lotion
Use fix it spray or toner on your brush or eyeshadow spong when applying! Keeps Eyeshadow on and bright!
keep a small compact with mirror and powder ( i use Arista, they're cheap and get the job done!)

Now on to the sunblock. How much is too much protection? As far as I've researched truthfully there seems to be no limit, just myths more or less about having to high a sun block. Tip do not buy your neutrogena sunblock in Pennywise Trincity because as the spf increases so does the price, I paid one flat price for my SPF85 sunblock in Pennywise Arima, so please be careful with choosing and buying sun block. In my opinion a sunblock of spf45 and higher is necessary! Don't go lower than that or else you will look like a turkey!

Sunblock tips

look for one that has dry touc, i.e doesn't go on looking pasty or greasy
buy sunblock not sunscreen there is difference
apply it often through out the day for best protection, so make use of those mini tubes ppl!
avoid rubbing into eyes, happened to my friend last year and she had a burning watering eye wholeee of tuesday!
put on sunblock before moisturizer, primer and make up!
